Weaving Coffee

Detail of the Hot Chocolate cushion on the loom

Café Society is my first textile collection — a celebration of the everyday rituals surrounding coffee and tea. These comforting drinks are a central part of my daily life, and I imagine they are for many others as well. This collection aims to translate that sense of familiarity into woven form.

I wanted to create a range of pieces that feel both distinctive and relatable. The designs are rich in colour and texture, making them adaptable to a variety of home settings. Each cushion is designed to work as a standalone statement, but also sits comfortably as part of a larger group. I’ve used passementerie — braids, tassels, and trimmings — to add an expressive, contemporary flair that nods to tradition.

Each cushion is hand woven by myself in small batches, including the passementerie. It is just me and my loom (s!)

Colour is at the heart of my practice. I often begin with blocks of solid colour, building upon them with embellishments, texture, and a touch of theatricality — like dipping a hand into the fancy dress box. I don’t confine myself to one weave structure. Sometimes the structure drives the story; other times, it’s the embellishment that carries the narrative.
